The National Football League Players Association (NFLPA) unionized professional NFL players in 1956 in order for players to work together for optimal health, rights, and family benefits. The union also represents all players in matters concerning: wages, hours and working conditions, protection for their rights as professional football players, making sure that the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) are met, negotiating and monitoring of retirement and insurance benefits, assistance to charitable and community organizations, and enhancing and defending the image of players and their profession on and off the field.
